Kinch at Streetlight Records

Kinch's "John Adams" is a British-Invasion-style salute to the second prez and his first lady -- possibly inspired by the Paul Giamatti miniseries -- so maybe they're classier than that. "Tie Me Lightly" surprises the jaded ear with a minor-key change on the b-section. And let's pronounce the zeitgeisty and Zombies-ish title track from their album The Economic Chastisement Kinch's best song ever, with its sinister, driving bass line, angsty looped keyboards, and musical summing-up of colossal financial failure. This band of Phoenicians are getting deserved attention in their hometown, and Arizona's capitol is still a relatively cheap place to live -- Kinch seem to be doing everything right, including sharing some free music at Streetlight this afternoon.
