Download and Share “Once, I was a Mainsail”

http://kinchband.com/share

We have a new song for you all. It’s called “Once, I Was a Mainsail,” and it’s going to be on our new record The Incandenza.

It’s free, and we’re making it incredibly easy for you to download and share with your friends and families. Really — it just takes one or two button clicks, and the song will beam all around the world.

ALL THAT HAVING BEEN SAID — sometimes it’s nice to share things that still have a little heft and weight. So, we’re letting you share our new song by sending a friend a cookie or a 7″ or postcard or CD-R mixtape. Just visit our share page, tell us who you want us to send it to and we’ll take care of the rest.

that was the custom come down

So that’s the end of the residencies for now. We played in San Diego three times in January, were on-air at KWSS 106.7 three times, played in Phoenix four times, and in Los Angeles five times. Not a bad amount of shows for not really being on tour.

When we got back to Phoenix from our final L.A. show last week, we had a few days off and then played a show for the Alliance of Independent Media Stores convention, which was being hosted by Kimber Lanning of Stinkweeds. It was great, and we made some good, new friends, like Eric of Criminal Records, a man after my own heart due to his love of Infinite Jest.

Now for February:

“Better Off Dead” Cover

The Sounds are running a clever marketing campaign to get the word out about their new single “Better Off Dead.” They uploaded sheet music to their website and encouraged bands to cover the song before hearing the original.

We spent an afternoon at my house and tried a version. This is a rough mix of it.

Stone Brewing Co., while not the purpose of our trip to California this past week — the purpose is to get famous and rich, and it’s going really, really well, thanks for asking — it was certainly one of the highlights. We wouldn’t have even known to visit the brewery, which sits a little bit north of San Diego, except for our tag-along this week — an editor for the Phoenix New Times. He’s writing a story about our residencies for next week’s paper, and came to see the shows in L.A. and San Diego.

It was highly idyllic and the beer was, as expected, delicious. Wayne bought a growler of it to bring home with him. The trip to the brewery was only slightly marred by Brian’s coming down with the horrible sinusageddon that I’ve had for the past week or so. He took a Mucinex and hurried for the van, where he promptly passed out on the bench. It reminded me of another time Brian just couldn’t handle mid-day revelry in Dallas, and repaired to the van while we had overpriced margaritas at a Tex-Mex place. A group of sorority girls (the place was near S.M.U.) toddled past the van saying, “Oh my God — look at that scary rapist van…. Oh my God … there’s someone asleep in there! Get in the car! Get in the car!”

It is a scary looking van, though, even with a bunch of nice looking guys standing in front of it:
